Method and caveats
Source
APVMA PubCRIS public export (pubcris.zip, listed on data.gov.au under CC BY 3.0 AU), dataset listed as updated 2026-10-01 and downloaded 2026-10-23. Records are joined by product number. New uses under assessment come from APVMA trade advice notices (CC BY 4.0).
Chemical structures are looked up by common name in PubChem (NCBI) and drawn with RDKit. A drawing is shown only when the PubChem record's InChIKey matches the one listed for that common name in the BCPC Compendium of Pesticide Common Names, at least in its atoms and bonds. Salt and ester forms show the parent. Each drawing links to its PubChem record.
Definitions
- Approved source: a current active constituent approval (category TG) that contains the active.
- First registered: the earliest first-registration date across states (the register's own product date is the latest renewal).
- Registered product: a currently registered agricultural product (category A*) with the active as an active ingredient. Veterinary products are excluded.
- Products per source: registered products divided by approved sources. A rough sign of how many products rely on each source, not a market share.
- Changes: approvals dated, and products first registered, within the last six months of the export. Cancelled records are not in the export, so removals are not shown. A product moved to a new product number counts as new.
- Salt and ester forms: approvals often sit under the parent name. Such pages link to the parent.
- Status label on each active page counts approved sources under that exact name: single (1), few (2–3), several (4–9), many (10 or more). It describes the register, not demand or price.
- Who registers it: registrants ranked by the number of registered products containing the active; a solid segment means the company also holds a source approval for it.
- Crops and targets: each registered product's label uses (crop or situation × pest, disease or weed), as the APVMA records them. A crop or target gets its own page when at least 20 registered products cover it. Spelling variants are kept as recorded.
- Who to talk to: registrants that register products with the active but hold no source approval for it rely on a source approved for another company. Which one is not public.
- Watch: the list of actives and companies you watch is kept in your browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- Data protection: the latest future end date of protected data lodged for any product containing the active. Protection covers specific data, not the active itself.
What this does not tell you
- Which manufacturer stands behind an approval: PubCRIS publishes the holder, not the site of manufacture.
- Which source a given product actually uses.
- Sales volumes, prices or patents.
- How to use any product. Follow the label.
